Just watched
ART CARNEY MEETS PETER AND THE WOLF

And really had a case of missing
The BAIRD'S OF BARROW STREET

So here are a whole buncha rare items I want to share with you.
"THE BUNNY HUGGERS"
Two dancers performed in tandem by the great
Frank SULLY Sullivan.

Yeah! That's Bil and his Horse!
Bil Baird & Gabriel Marin (our son.)
In India (when it was exotic and over there).
CHARLEMAGNE the LION
Probably as close as Bil got to an altered ego
(except for maybe Snarky Parker. . .)
"THE STRANGE CASE OF THE COSMIC RAYS"

Directed By
FRANK CAPRA

BILL TOST, OLGA FELGEMACHER & PETER BAIRD

SEEK REVENGE ON THE STAGE MANAGER (CARL HARMS)
WITH THE HELP OF THE WOLF.

What a GREAT cartoonist he was!

Everyone starts out somewhere. . .

  1. Craig, thank you so very much for this wonderful look at "The Baird's of Barrow Street" items and the true magic that was created to the delight of millions. Even though I never met Bil, Cora, you (yet) or any of the other family members and talented staff in the Baird puppet company I feel that I do know you all though your creative work. Even as a child growing up in Springfield, Massachusetts I enjoyed Charlemagne the Lion on early morning black and white television and the wonderful puppet creations that were being shown. It touched me and ignited my own creative talents. Two names that will always be in my mind as the very fabric of creators of shear wonder are “Walt Disney” and “Bil and Cora Baird”. I was inspired to have my own puppet theatre as a child and now that I am semi retired I am rekindling my interests in puppets and am a working partner in The Royal Squirrel Puppet Theatre here in NYC. We just produced our first show titled “Rainbow Journey” which focuses on a gay family in NYC and an adventure the children have one Summer afternoon in Central Park. I am now a member of the Puppet Guild of New York too. I must tell you that I'm having the time of my life rediscovering the awesome fun and creativity of puppet theatre! I would love to see more of the items shown here first hand if the opportunity becomes available. (Hint) Best to you all and thank you again!

  2. Hi Craig and Olga;

Just discovered your blog. I grew up watching Bil and Cora on TV, from Snarkey Parker, to the Whistling Wizard, The CBS Morning Show. I attended many performances on Barrow Street, and eventually took the course with Sully and Fania, and worked very briefly in the shop. Great collection of Baird photo's.
